Nicktoons UK - 2014 Rebrand

Following a competitive pitch, the London-based award winning creative production studio Beautiful Creative were tasked with rebranding Nickelodeon UK's top-performing animation and action channel, Nicktoons UK & Ireland. The brief was to 'focus on funny' and to place Nicktoons characters at the forefront of the branding.

The rebrand went on to win silver at Promax UK in the best channel identity category!

A new identity was created placing the characters eyes within the Nicktoons logo. This simple solution ties the Nicktoons brand to the characters seamlessly and allows the brand itself to be funny.

Nickelodeon selected key shots to be re-animated to sit in with the branding. Cell animation was re-created in Adobe Flash to give a crisp scalable image. 3D cartoons were modelled and rigged in Maxon's Cinema 4D.

The rebrand included logo, idents, stings, promo packaging, bugs and in-program-pointers as well as re-skinning existing assets to sit within the new brand.

Video Featuring A Montage Of Seasonal Nickelodeon International Idents

Below is a high quality (HQ) high-definition (HD) streaming video which features a montage of seasonal Nickelodeon Idents which features five Nickelodeon Seasonal IDs which were directed and designed for Nickelodeon International so that Nickelodeon channels and networks around the world (Planet Nickelodeon/Planet Orange) could broadcast them on-air to celebrate various different seasons during the year, such as Christmas, Easter, Spring, and Summer, by Sydney, Australia based award-winning design and motion studio 'The DMC Initiative' (also known as 'The DMCI').

The video montage below features five of Nickelodeon International's Seasonal Network Idents (Nickelodeon Station IDs). The first Nickelodeon Seasonal Ident is a Easter Nickelodeon Ident which features the famous Nickelodeon logo hatching from a white egg shell. The second Nickelodeon Seasonal Ident is a Christmas themed Nickelodeon Ident and features a Nickelodeon Orange and White coloured Santa Claus Christmas present toy sack which is full of the alphabet letters that make up the word 'Nickelodeon' in Nickelodeon's current logo font fall to the ground, which then makes all the letters that make up the word 'Nickelodeon' fall and tumble out of the sack and rearrange themselves to form the word 'Nickelodeon' to make up the Nickelodeon logo. The third seasonal Nickelodeon Ident is also a Nickelodeon Christmas Ident and features eleven Nickelodeon Christmas presents wrapped up in Nickelodeon Christmas wrapping paper [Nickelodeon Wrapping Paper] unwrapping, unraveling and opening themselves to reveal that each present contains a alphabet letter from the Nickelodeon logo, which then combine to make up the Nickelodeon logo. The fourth seasonal Nickelodeon Ident is a Valentines themed Nickelodeon Ident and features the Nickelodeon logo in a white font colour surrounded by Nickelodeon Orange coloured heart shaped balloons, arrows are then shot at most of the heart shaped orange balloons causing them to burst and turn the white coloured Nickelodeon logo orange by covering the Nickelodeon logo in orange paint splats/orange Nickelodeon Slime. The fifth Nickelodeon Seasonal Ident is also a Valentines Nickelodeon Ident (Nickelodeon Valentine Ident), and features the eleven letters of the Nickelodeon logo as chocolate/candy in separate wrappers in a heart shaped Valentines chocolate selection gift box. After all the chocolate Nickelodeon letters are munched and eaten, the Valentines candy box's lid is shown, revealing a heart shaped Nickelodeon logo:

The DMCI was awarded the project to create a series of internationally broadcast IDs and Bugs for Nickelodeon. Based on the seasons – Christmas, Valentines Day, Easter, Spring and Summer – the Ids are fun little snippets based around the Nickelodeon Logo.

The first 5 Ids have launched, with Spring and Summer to follow. The results are fantastic with Nickelodeon producer Simone Smith commenting: "I think it is unanimous on our end that we are thrilled with the final outcome of these IDs – you have a very talented team and we would like to extend our thanks for putting so much hard work and effort into this project."

We look forward to sharing the next set, but until then, enjoy!

We were tasked with helping the Nickelodeon team create a graphics package for their 2012 Upfronts.

Keeping the focus on textures and tactility, we wanted to create a look that would make viewers want to reach out and touch the elements in the scene. So we took some shiny plastic, some blobby goo, bumpy sponges and some prickly shapes and mixed it together to create a package that highlights the fun and experiential nature of the network.

Davis, and the graphics were designed and created by Sheffield, UK-based creative studio agency "PIXEL DNA".

The actual story, rather than the telling, was displayed to the television viewer. Each storyteller would begin their story by saying "Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this story...", and each horror story title begun with "The Tale of...", like "The Tale of the Phantom Cab".

The story-boarding was all done in Storyboard Pro and the animation was all done in Animate Pro 2. The 3D was done in Blender.

In the Nickelodeon USA Halloween Ident "Nickelodeon Halloween Network ID - Goo" (below), a Nickelodeon Orange slimy, gooey creature comes out from the 'I' in the 'Nick logo', walks towards the television screen, then walks backwards and disappears back into the 'I' of the 'Nick logo' again:

In the Nickelodeon USA Halloween Ident "Nickelodeon Halloween Network ID - Frank" (below), the 'I' in the 'Nick logo' swivels around to reveal that it is a Egyptian Mummy's coffin with an Nickelodeon Orange coloured Egyptian Mummy inside, who then walks up to the Nickelodeon television camera, licks the Nickelodeon camera's lens, then goes back into the 'I' of the 'Nick logo':

I storyboard and animated this Halloween Network ID for Nickelodeon (my day job). It had to be one of the coolest projects I have ever worked on. This 5 second slate was shown a week and a half before Halloween in 2010. The story-boarding was all done in Storyboard Pro and the animation was all done in Animate Pro 2. The 3D was done in Blender.

A bit more information about Nickelodeon USA's Halloween 2010 idents/station Id's from Nickelodeon Animator and Designer Robert Kohr's official website, who designed the above Nickelodeon USA Halloween 2010 idents/station ID's, including complete credits for the Nickelodeon USA Halloween 2010 idents/station ID's and what computer programs were used to make the Nick Halloween 2010 idents/station Id's for Nickelodeon USA:
Nickelodeon Halloween Animation – Network IDs

I had a tremendous opportunity this fall to develop 3 network ID’s for the Halloween holiday for Nick on-air. I work for Nickelodeon as an animator and multimedia designer in its preschool digital online group (what a mouth-full). That said when I was offered the chance to work on these I was more than happy to jump on it. I worked with the VP of Brand Creative to direct these three spots that aired in the 8 to 9 days before October 31st, 2010. The characters were designed on paper, the storyboards were created in Storyboard Pro and the animation was all done in Animate Pro. The 3D Nick logo was created in the open source 3D program, Blender. All in all I had a terrific time working on this and working with my co-workers and freelancers who are always so generous with advice and help, especially my boss Renato who gave me the time to work on these. It was also great to see it on air!

There isn't much information about these Nickelodeon Halloween bumpers, such as which country's Nickelodeon channels they are from, and what year they were broadcast and used on-air on those Nickelodeon channels (they were posted in December 2010). The first video could be a Nickelodeon USA Halloween bumper, as the Nickelodeon logo says "Nick" instead of "Nickelodeon" which is the Nickelodeon logo Nickelodeon USA uses, with the second video featuring Nickelodeon Internationals version of the same Nickelodeon Halloween bumper, except with the Nickelodeon logo saying "Nickelodeon", which is the Nickelodeon logo most international Nickelodeon channels use for their channels logo.

Nickelodeon had a week of programming that was based around web clips and the Internet, which they dubbed "The Webbiest Week Ever". We went for a clean, geometric, and high-tech look, but then animated in a fun and bouncy way to still make it feel kid oriented.

Nickelodeon's 2011 Image Campaign Videos

Below are three high quality streaming videos of Nickelodeon's 2011 image campaign, which were made by New York-based creative studio "Trollbäck + Company", who also designed Nickelodeon's 2009 on-air look to go with Nickelodeon's brand new logo, which was launched at the same time as Nickelodeon's brand new logo in 2009.

Each video below of Nickelodeon's 2011 image campaign features Nickelodeon stars from Nickelodeon's current live action and animated programming, including the casts of the Nickelodeon shows Big Time Rush, iCarly, The Fairly OddParents, T.U.F.F. Puppy, Victorious, The Penguins of Madagascar, Planet Sheen, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, Supah Ninjas, SpongeBob SquarePants, Fanboy and Chum Chum, Bucket & Skinner's Epic Adventures, and True Jackson, VP.

Nickelodeon recently had us create this image campaign that features both their talent from live-action shows and animated characters. In order to connect both worlds, we created an abstract environment using rear and frontal projections on a stage and shot the talent live, using CG sparingly.

The music used in the above video of Nickelodeon's 2011 image campaign was created by sound designers Sacred Noise.

The video below looks like it's Nickelodeon Internationals version of Nickelodeon's 2011 image campaign, as it has a 'Nickelodeon' logo at the end, instead of a 'Nick' logo, which Nickelodeon USA uses:

Below is a streaming video of one of Nickelodeon USA's trailers from 2011 called "Are You Ready", which is based on and features footage from Nickelodeon's 2011 Image Campaign, which was created and devised by New York-based creative studio "Trollbäck + Company".

The video below of Nickelodeon USA's "Are You Ready" promo from 2011 features Nickelodeon stars from Nickelodeon's current live action and animated programming, including the casts of the Nickelodeon shows Big Time Rush, iCarly (including Gibby (Noah Munck)), T.U.F.F. Puppy, Victorious, The Penguins of Madagascar, Planet Sheen, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, SpongeBob SquarePants, Fanboy and Chum Chum, Bucket & Skinner's Epic Adventures, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Troop, Power Rangers Samurai, and True Jackson, VP.

The music and song used in the above video of Nickelodeon USA's "Are You Ready" trailer from 2011 is called "Fly High" by the band "The DNC".
